Your flooring and pets can live in harmony

It can be hard keeping a solid wooden floor clean and scratch free when you have furry friends running around, but it is possible to keep on top of a hard wooden floor when you have pet.

EMCWestCarlton.ca has some handy tips to follow which are the key to your pets and floor living in harmony.

It is important that your pet's claws are regularly trimmed, as to avoid scratches, particularly cats who like to scratch at things regularly to mark their territory and exercise, and so providing them with a scratch post can deter them from any attempts to scratch at your wooden floor. It is vital that you do not declaw your pet, just trim their claws properly.

Use a mat if you keep food and water bowls on the wooden floor, this will prevent spills and scratches to the floor.

If there is a high-traffic area, lay down a mat or runner to prevent general wear and tear.

If it is muddy or wet outside, bring your pet into a garage or utility first to dry them down and wipe their paws before they run through onto your wooden floor.

If this seems like too much hassle choose an old-style distressed looking floor - this way you won't notice the scratches!
