In a bid to change the appearance of their laminate flooring, many will take the ill-advised step of trying to apply wax to the surface. Not only is this step a waste of both time and money, it also creates a significant amount of mess.
Here are just two of the reasons why you shouldn't use wax on laminate flooring:
Wax won't penetrate the surface - Laminate is manufactured to feature a top layer that will provide a significant amount of protection to the lower levels. Acting like plastic film, this top layer will prevent moisture, as well as other substances - such as wax - from being absorbed. Therefore if you apply wax to the surface of the floor it's just going to sit there - ultimately resulting in an inconvenient mess.
Wax will leave unsightly streaks - An attempt at applying wax to laminate flooring will leave white streaks across it. These streaks are very hard to remove, and, in some cases, you may find that your floor is left with this look - which will really detract attention away from the flooring's original finish.
