Homeowners turn to the professionals for DIY tasks

According to a survey by popular TV channel, Home, many Britons are still turning to professionals to do simple DIY jobs around the home.

The results of the survey found that as much as £5.6 billion is spent each year on hiring professionals such as floor fitters to fit simple laminate flooring.

It showed that although most Britons do own a tool kit, they lack the skills to use them with 14 per cent of people thinking that a spirit level was something to measure out alcoholic drinks.

Clare Laycock, head of Home, told DIY week, “Our Seize the DIY campaign on TV and online will show Brits how straightforward it is to do it themselves.

“We want to build a nation of DIY heroes throughout 2011.”
