Treating your solid wood flooring against woodworm

It is often said that a good solid wood floor will last you a lifetime. However for this to be the case, care and regular maintenance need to be undertaken.

Providing the floor hasn't fallen into complete disrepair, and is still in a condition where it's moderately level, any small defects can be restored.

Amongst these small repairable defects is woodworm.

Firstly it needs to be determined whether your solid wood floor has an active woodworm problem. This can be done by ringing any already present exit holes with pencil or ink – if any new holes emerge over the next year, you can be sure that the woodworm needs to be dealt with.

Woodworm can be treated with an application of any of the many available treatments.

Floorboards and joists affected must be replaced with new wood; whilst coating the underside of the new wood and joists with varnish will help to prevent any unwanted re-infestation.
