Tips for installing hard wood flooring

In preparation for laying a hard wood floor, the first thing you should do is to give it some adjustment time – this can be done simply by leaving it in the environment that it is to be installed in.

The room should be sealed with plastic film and surfaces prone to damage masked up and protected. Also before installing try to ensure that the room temperature is at stable level.

All flooring will come with a set of manufacturer instructions on how to install it, however it is also imperative that the flooring is sealed on all sides, in particular ends that could be exposed to moisture.

It is recommended that, once laid, the floor should be sanded at least three times with fine grade sand paper – ensure that the floor is adequately swept and vacuumed between each sanding.

The floor can then be stained – this should be applied with care and with the manufacturers recommendations in mind. Multiple coats of stain are required; these should subsequently be left to dry and then sanded down.

After two or three coats followed by sanding, the desired result should be achieved - leaving you with a hard wood flooring with a fantastic appearance.
