With a new year comes new and exciting flooring trends. Writing for FloorFacts, award-winning interior designer Patricia Davis Brown has attempted to pinpoint the most popular flooring finishes for 2012.
Here are just a couple of the finishes highlighted by Brown, in a summarised form:
Scraped wood flooring - Wood flooring has always proved to be a popular choice within the home. However, Brown states that some "are afraid it won't hold up."
She states that hand-scraped wood flooring will prove to be popular during 2012 as it exudes a huge amount of character and can "endure a rough-and-tumble" household.
Engineered wood flooring - Thanks to advances in the technology used by flooring manufacturers, engineered wood flooring is able to mimic every last nuance of a variety of solid wood styles.
Brown praises engineered wood flooring's ability to stand up "well in areas of moisture" and recommends it for both kitchens and bathrooms.
Ultimately Brown concludes by stating that the most popular floor coverings will be both fashionable and functional.
