Sustainable flooring seminar deemed a success

A recent flooring seminar held for professionals within the industry to discuss topical and environmental issues has been declared a success, according to an article published on floordata.com.

Held in London, the event's topics ranged from safety regulations, waste management to the ongoing effort to improve recycling rates.

The various lectures – all featuring experienced panelists from some of the industry's leading companies - offered a number of interesting facts and statistics.

Representing the Floor Sustainability Partnership, Pete Thomas spoke of recent Flooring Resource Efficiency Action Plan research, that displayed mixed results; there was a 33 per cent increase in vinyl floor recycling, but also an increase over 50 per cent in carpet waste.

Also speaking at the seminar, Nick Baker, sustainable procurement lead for Skanska, took time to discuss the company's ongoing efforts to improve waste management strategies. Baker also commended the Barts and Royal London Hospitals project as a clear display of best practice.
