Tenants Get Home Improvement Help

A new scheme being launched by the government could help those living in social housing in England redecorate their accommodation and make home improvement projects such as replacing carpet with laminate flooring.

The proposals could help millions of Britons improve their standard of living and allow them to take pride in their homes after it launches the Tenant Cashback Scheme.

According to a leading DIY website, landlords are estimated to spend a total of £4 billion a year on repairs and maintenance of rented properties, which is mainly made up from simple plumbing and painting, most of which could be completed by the tenant.

More advanced DIY such as replacing flooring could be completed by a specialist but the cost could be clawed back through the fund, meaning the tenant isn't out of pocket.

The message from the government however is that whatever DIY job is undertaken the correct safety procedures should be followed and if in doubt consult an expert before taking on more complex improvements.
