Over the past few years slate flooring has become an extremely desirable floor covering for the home. Exuding a certain elegance with a highly stylised edge, it is most commonly found in kitchens and bathrooms.
Despite the 'wow' factor that slate's appearance provides, many are put off using it because of safety issues. Some varieties of slate can be naturally very slippery - which can result in injury, especially to toddlers and pets.
However, not all quarried slate has this texture. One of type of slate that should be considered for the family home is riven. Its rough texture provides a greater level of grip underfoot - a factor which will prevent those unwanted slips, trips and falls.
Though not the most ideal flooring for the family home, there is a way to make slate a little safer; by positioning rugs - attached to the floor with double-sided carpet tape - it can be ensured that accidents are potentially limited.
