Whilst a flooring material that is growing popularity, many are unaware of why and how you should go about sealing a cork floor. However, if a cork floor isn't sealed, the likelihood of it becoming damaged increases greatly.
So, with this in mind, we've produced a short, simple guide on how you can seal your cork floor:
Step 1 - Firstly you need to prepare the surface for the sealing process.
Take a piece of grade 60-grit sandpaper and place onto a floor sander; work the floor sander until your floor is left with an even finish. Replace the sandpaper with a 100-grit sandpaper to ensure that the floor is completely free of rough areas.
Having finished sanding, you should clear the floor with a vacuum cleaner - ensuring that all cork dust and lingering bits of debris are removed from the floor.
Step 2 - The cork should now be ready for sealing. To do this take a tub of polyurethane and pour into a clean paint tray.
Using a paint roller set about applying the substance to the floor in long but even strokes. Once completely covered, leave to dry.
When dry, take a 220-grit piece of sandpaper and work by hand to ensure all imperfections are removed from the polyurethane layer. Clear away any dust and leave for a short while.
To complete the process you will need to add a further two layers of polyurethane - taking the same steps as you did for the first layer.
