Rise in parquet production boosts flooring market

Production of parquet flooring across Europe rose by four percent in 2010.

The news shows demand for wood flooring is still high despite the economic crisis - which saw parquet production drop by 16% in 2008 and 20% in 2009.

Members of the European Parquet Industry Federation produced more than 70,000 square metres of wooden floor in 2010.

However, wooden floors still have some way to go to become the most popular choice in Europe - ceramic floors remain most popular, and can be found in 90% of houses, with just 46% featuring wooden floors and 33% with laminate flooring.

Parquet is viewed as a great alternative to traditional wooden floors, and is clearly proving an affordable choice for those looking to change their floors.

Industry experts hope the boom in parquet production, which offsets a downturn of a fifth in the past two years, will continue over the next year.
