Ridding your vinyl flooring of rust stains

Although considered to be very durable, vinyl flooring is susceptible to becoming permanently stained by rust - if not dealt with quickly and effectively.

However, this shouldn't faze you, as the task is an extremely simple one that can completed in just a few minutes; and with this in mind, we've produced a short simple guide on how you can go about successfully removing rust stains from your vinyl flooring:

Step 1 - As with most cleaning tasks, the flooring should be completely cleared before you undertake the rust removal process. Appliances that hinder the access you have to the rust stain - such as washing machines and dishwashers - should be removed. However, it is important not to over exert yourself with heavy lifting - get a second person to help.

Step 2 - Take some baking soda and sprinkle over the area affected by the rust stain. A light covering of the substance will provide a surface abrasive enough to aid the stain removal process.

Step 3 - To create a paste capable of really penetrating the stain, take a clean dishcloth and dip into vinegar and simply scrub against the baking soda. You will find that the scrubbing action combined with the penetration of the paste will begin to remove the stain. For larger stains you may need to add more baking soda during the process.

Step 4 - Now the stain has been removed, you can now rinse the area with fresh water and soap. Allow a good amount of ventilation to allow the area to dry.
