Repairing curled vinyl flooring tiles
Although undoubtedly a fantastically durable option, vinyl flooring tiles can look rather unsightly when they begin to curl – as a result becoming loose from the subfloor layer.
Using a simple repair method, you can easily prevent your tiles from becoming damaged more by reattaching them.
Here is a four-step guide on how you can go about doing so:
- Take a sheet of aluminium foil – the same size as your damaged tile – and cover the vinyl flooring tile you wish to reattach. Take an iron on a medium heat setting and warm the aluminium foil to soften the rest of the adhesive on the underside of the floor tile.
- Pull back the tile to allow for a fresh application of floor adhesive to be applied – carefully noting that too much adhesive will cause an awkward ripping effect.
- Once this is complete, the tile can then be put back into its original position. Using a rolling pin, roll right towards the tile's edge, as this will force out any extra adhesive. Wipe this excess material away using a damp cloth.
- To ensure that the tile dries in the correct position, cover with wax paper and a weighty object – such as a hardback book. The weight of the object will keep the tile from curling back into its pre-repair state. The adhesive should be left for around eight hours to set. Once dry, take a seam sealer and apply a thin line down each of the tile's seams – this will prevent further dirt from getting in.
