Safety when fitting laminate flooring

It is important that when you undertake any DIY job, you check that all the equipment being used is safe and that you have the best working environment that you possibly can.

This is the latest message from the Health and Safety Executive following an accident that saw one employee lose his fingers whilst fitting laminate flooring.

The company based in Liverpool was fined £5,000 with the worker requiring a six-hour operation to re-attach his fingers, but is unlikely to ever regain the movement in his hand.

HSE inspector Jane Carroll said: "Workers at Universal Moulding's factory were put at risk for over nine years. It was inevitable someone would eventually be seriously injured."

Since the incident the company have now installed more suitable equipment and ensured that they adhere to the correct health and safety standards, so the message to anyone undertaking DIY or even in a professional capacity is be careful!
