Introduced to provide people with a way to recycle their old and unwanted vinyl flooring, Recovinyl, the company behind the scheme, are expecting to announce that they've recycled in excess of 50,000 tonnes during 2011.
With just under three weeks left of this year, the company is hoping to have beaten last year's figure of 49,343 tonnes by several hundred tonnes.
Offering the contentious with an eco-friendly alternative way of dispensing of their unwanted vinyl flooring, Recovinyl currently operate a total of 26 recycling centres spread across the United Kingdom.
As well as helping the environment - by keeping vinyl from ending up in landfill sites - the scheme also helps to show vinyl flooring in a new, more positive light - as a product that can be reused in the future.
Recovinyl have revealed that they aim to see around 800,000 tonnes of recycled vinyl reused - in various products - in Europe by the end of the decade (2020).
