Protecting your wooden floor against the winter elements

As winter is nigh upon us once again, the first signs of a cold snap are beginning to appear; with this, those with wood flooring in the home have been advised to take a number of precautions to ensure that it doesn't become damaged.

The drastic change in temperature caused when heating systems are turned on can cause the wood used in flooring to expand and contract - which can prove to be problematic in the long-run.

This problem can be combatted simply by being aware of humidity levels in the room; rather than turning the heating up full straight-away, try to make warming the room up a gradual process instead.

With snow and ice commonplace in the Great British winter, gritting salts will no doubt be used in huge amounts. As a coarse material, gritting salt can cause a huge amount of damage to the wood flooring - making it important to ensure that it doesn't get walked and trodden into the flooring.

Brush mats placed outside will ensure that the amount of gritting salt entering the home is at a minimum this winter.
