Preventing laminate flooring from becoming discoloured

Laminate flooring is fantastically versatile, making it suitable for use throughout the home – whilst also providing a huge variety of spectacular finishes.

However, over time, like many materials, laminate flooring can lose its edge through discolouration. The main cause of this discolouration is from being in consistent contact with direct sunlight.

The main recommendation to prevent this from happening would be to try and ensure that flooring is kept out of direct sunlight; but this is extremely impractical and pretty much impossible to implement without keeping your floor entirely covered.

In areas where the sun only affects certain areas of the room, a rug can be utilised to give the floor adequate protection against sunlight.

Another cause of discolouration is provided by moisture.

For example, spilling a glass of water onto a laminate floor, without mopping up afterwards will have a significant effect.

The liquid can soak into the floors core too, another cause of discolouration. So it is important to wipe or mop up any spillage soon after it has happened.
