Prevent damage to your wood flooring on moving day
Moving home is one of those very exciting moments in life; it can also be extremely stressful, especially with worries about your new home's wooden flooring being damaged by careless movers.
To limit the potential risk of the floor in your home becoming scratched or scuffed, it's certainly worth protecting it.
Here are a number of precautions that can be taken to prevent any damage from occurring:
- Lay a doormat – with bristles – at the front, back and any side entrances to your new home; this will catch debris and dirt – a well-known scourge to the flooring's finish.
- Using two layers of Rosin paper, design a path through the house and tape down with painter's tape.
- Plywood boards can be used where heavier kitchen appliances such as fridges and cookers need to be maneuvered through the home. This will reduce the risk of scratching – though it should be noted that there should be no gaps between each sheet of plywood board.
- Thick, clean socks can be used to cover furniture legs. In the case that the furniture needs to be placed down, the layer of cloth will soften the impact of sharp edges on the surface of the flooring.
- Once you've moved everything into your new home, remove all plywood board, rosin paper and other coverings and simply sweep and mop to clean.
