As summer comes to an end, there will be a sudden rush to get all those unfinished DIY projects completed before the much colder, harsher weather conditions set in.
Many will be contemplating installing a brand new vinyl floor in their kitchen or bathroom during this period.
With this in mind, here are a number of good preparation tips you should take into account:
Know your jargon – Like all specialist subjects, a number of confusing terms are used to describe the various installation methods of vinyl flooring, which are as follows:
Full Spread: This method involves daubing the subflooring level with an adhesive.
Perimeter Adhered: In this method, adhesive is only applied to the edge of the vinyl flooring and at the seams where necessary.
Floating: Floating flooring is not attached to the subfloor layer at all.
Remove all furniture – Although this may sound like an obvious step, many will leave their valued furniture in the room, not only putting it at the mercy of vinyl flooring fitters, but possibly incurring an extra charge in the process. It's an easy step and there really isn't any excuse for not taking it.
Control the climate – Humidity levels should be limited to between 45 and 65 per cent; they should also be maintained consistently at this level too.
Contact your gas company if in doubt – Don't be afraid to contact your gas provider if you are wary or concerned about disconnecting and reconnecting various gas appliances.
