Polishing your vinyl flooring in four easy steps

Whilst vinyl flooring is well-known as being one of the most resilient floor coverings currently available on the market, this factor doesn't make it exempt from needing some maintenance every once in a while.

In order for the flooring to be brought back to its initial condition, it will need to be polished; and with this in mind, here is a short simple guide on how you can go about polishing your vinyl flooring.

Step 1 - Firstly the floor needs to be prepared; this means clear of any dirt, dust or debris. Take a dustpan and brush or mop and ensure that your floor is completely clear.

Step 2 - It is likely that your floor may contain some stains that just can't be removed with a dustpan and brush. So take a cleaning solution - made up of soap and water - and set about mopping the floor; once finished rinse away any excess solution and leave to dry.

Step 3 - The vinyl flooring will need to be stripped. To do this consult the manufacturer's guide that will have been packaged with your flooring upon purchase - this will enable you to find out which type of stripped you need for your flooring.

Presuming you've located the type of stripper appropriate for your vinyl flooring, pour it over the entire floor and leave for 15 minutes.

Using a brush, scrub away at the flooring until you are satisfied that it looks clear and improved in appearance. Rinse the excess stripper away with water once finished.

Step 4 - Add a refinisher to your vinyl floor to bring back the shine and complete the process.
