As a natural stone of much beauty, it is unsurprising that slate is so popular as a floor covering amongst homeowners up and down the country. Like many other floor coverings, slate needs a certain amount of care and attention to keep it looking fantastic.
There are a number of cleaning methods that can, however, if employed do more harm than good. Here are just a few of those methods that should be avoided when cleaning your slate flooring:
- Don't vacuum: Vacuum cleaners will often have attachments that can scratch the surface; this damage, in many cases, is irreparable. Instead of vacuuming simply use a broom to sweep or a mop to clean up any tougher stains.
- Avoid harsh cleaning products: Cleaning products that contain acids can cause the surface to become discoloured - causing the floor to lose one of its key attributes. Vinegar should also be avoided - in your own cleaning solutions.
