Maintaining your vinyl flooring
Like any type of flooring, vinyl flooring requires regular care and maintenance.
The World Floor Covering Association has come up with a few handy pointers to keep your vinyl flooring gleaming.
- Dirt is an enemy: Letting dust and dirt particles build up isn't going to do your flooring any good. Therefore it is important to sweep or vacuum on a regular basis. However, make sure you don't use anything that could potentially cause scratches, such as scrub brushes.
- Avoid strong, abrasive cleaning products: It can be tempting when the stains or marks are quite strong to use the most abrasive cleaning product in the cupboard; however with vinyl this can do more bad than good. The simple method of mopping with warm water and a subsequent rinse should do the trick.
- Wipe it up straight away: Rather than letting small spillages sit to build up, wipe them up immediately, using the same technique as you would to clean the whole floor. This makes maintaining the floor a whole lot easier.
- Keep cuts or gouges clean: Although it may sound more like first aid advice, it is important to keep any vinyl floor cuts clear of dirt; once dirt gets into the seam or gap it becomes a much more difficult task to repair it.
