One of the most beautiful floor coverings available on the market, marble is a material that can easily become damaged over time if it doesn't receive the correct level of maintenance.
Dirt and debris - usually brought into the home by shoes - can cause the surface to become worn and scratched. To combat this a mat should be placed at each entrance - this will encourage visitors to wipe their feet before they enter.
To prevent an excessive build up of dirt, the flooring should ideally be mopped at least twice a week. Once finished, the floor should then be dried using a towel - this will prevent the streaking caused by standing water.
Harsh acidic based cleaning substances should be avoided. As an expensive material, it is best to use specially designed marble floor cleaners; airing on the side of caution will prevent any major cleaning disasters.
It should also be remembered that alkaline based substances such as bleach can also cause a huge amount of damage to the surface - so avoid!
