Keeping a parquet wood floor clean

Designed with pieces of wood positioned to form a pattern, parquet flooring is definitely a unique flooring option for the home. It, like the majority of floor coverings on the market, needs a good level of care and maintenance if it's to remain looking at its absolute best.

With this in mind we've produced a short, simple guide on how you can go about keeping your parquet flooring looking fabulous:

Sweep daily - By keeping the floor swept on a daily basis you can ensure that dust and dirt isn't able to build up. A dust mop or a broom will ensure that the grit (which can cause problematic scratches) is removed and general dust is cleared.

Damp mop - In most instances, water and wood aren't the best combination; therefore it is advisable to damp mop a parquet floor rather than the typical mop and bucket technique. If you use the latter technique there is a huge chance of water getting into the gaps between the boards.

This can lead to discolouration, swelling and rot.

Once you've finished damp-mopping the floor, make sure that you dry with a towel afterwards - this will ensure that any excess water is absorbed into the towel rather than the wood.
