With heating bills set to rise significantly later this year, it's important to ensure that you have the right insulation in your home.
Part of this long-term money-saving process can start with correctly insulating your wood flooring.
Mineral wool insulation, supported by netting, can be laid between the joists. Although this may sound like a time-consuming task, it can be done simply enough – by lifting the floorboards.
The benefits that can be reaped are quite impressive too, with around a £40 per year saving on heating bills if installed on the ground floor.
A further £15 per year saving can be made by using silicon sealant to fill in any exposed gaps between flooring and skirting boards – which will stop an unwanted draughts.
However, precaution must be taken not to block any under-floor airbricks fitted in the outside walls. Without the ventilation that airbricks provide the floorboards and flooring will rot away.
