Rising fuel bills, environmental awareness and consumer conscious will drive a huge boom in environmentally-friendly home improvements this summer, according to Home Building and Renovating magazine.
It claims landlords and homeowners will look to source eco-friendly materials and make energy-efficient improvements to their homes.
That could be installing double-glazing, recycling rainwater, improving insulation or swapping to green materials.
The magazine has termed the movement "ecovation".
The need to save money seems to be a key driving factor in the ecovation trend. DIY spending is down, according to Lloyds TSB, with expenditure dropping 13% from 2009 to 2010.
People looking to replace their flooring could get more environmentally-friendly by considering bamboo or cork.
Insulation is another money-saving measure - putting underlay under floorboards, and using sealant, can stop draughts and keep the warmth in, especially during winter.
