Wood flooring adds a classic look to any room - but to get the best from your floor, you need to look after it.
There are some simple guidelines to follow to help keep your floor looking clean and in great condition.
Light wood flooring or laminates are especially susceptible to discolouration from grime, so be sure to brush or vacuum regularly, and clear away spills.
Darker wood floors may lighten in sunlight, so take precautions to protect areas near windows.
If water gets into the wood or laminate, it will cause the surface to swell and rise up - causing ugly lumps and ruining the effect. Be sure to keep your floor as dry as possible.
Think about shoes, too - high heels can scrape and damage the surface, so ask guests to remove them. Indentations from heels can pock-mark the floor too.
The same goes for furniture - be careful moving sofas, chairs and tables around as they can scratch and damage the surface of your floor.
If you have wooden floors in busy doorways, especially those leading outside, make sure you put a mat down to keep the surface clean and dry.
