Five tips for picking a hardwood floor
Hardwood flooring is well-known to provide a property with a revitalising boost, not just aesthetically but also financially.
With this in mind, Stockmarketreview.com have recently produced a short list of five basic tips to take into account when looking for a hardwood floor:
- Know the alternatives: There are many alternatives that hardwood flooring has; solid or engineered, strips, planks or parquets and so on. A good foundation level of research will ensure that you get the type required.
- Consider the hardwood ranges: Wood comes in many different varieties, – be it dark, light, tough or soft – the durability will ultimately define which area is floored with hardwood. For example cherry wood is tender and therefore not a great choice for rooms that get a lot of use; whilst beech is sturdier and can absorb impact, making it a popular choice in living rooms and hallways.
- Have a finish in mind: Special waxes can be applied to many hardwood floors to give them a gloss finish; others provide a high sheen or silky appearance, though these may need regular reapplications – something else to consider.
- Draw up a budget: Drawing up a budget and subsequently sticking to it can be difficult. But measuring up the area in which the floor is to be laid can make pricing up a realistic budget easier.
- Plan for labour costs: Ensure adequate space is made in any budget for potential labour or extra installation costs to avoid being caught out.
