Rubber is an extremely durable material; this can make cutting the flooring down to size quite a challenge on first attempt. However, if you maintain a good, steady hand the process should be pretty easy.
Here are five things you should remember when cutting your rubber flooring:
Tip 1 - The knife you're going to be cutting the rubber with is likely to be extremely sharp; to ensure your hands are adequately protected wear heavy-duty gloves.
Tip 2 - Before cutting you have to decide where you're going to make the cut. Be sure to choose somewhere that isn't going to be easily damaged or scratched.
Tip 3 - In order to cut in a straight line you need to keep the knife's edge so that it is against the straightedge that you're cutting against; remember, the straightedge should always be metal - i.e. a metal ruler.
Tip 4 - When cutting rubber, it is common to find that the knife drags - which can make cutting difficult. To combat this, simply lubricate the knife blade with a mixture of soap and water beforehand.
Tip 5 - You'll find that your first cut doesn't go completely through; it will however score the material - acting as a guide for further cuts.
