European wood flooring market remains stable during 2011

Following reports provided by members during the recent DOMOTEX flooring exhibition in Hannover, the European Federation of the Parquet Industry (FEP) has revealed that wood flooring consumption in Europe remained at a stable level during 2011, according to an article published by Hardwood Floors Magazine.

Due to ongoing financial problems across Europe, the FEP have noted that the performance in the wood flooring market varies from country to country.

Consumption levels currently stand at around 95 million square metres or 1,022,571,488 square feet per annum; meanwhile growth was displayed in Sweden, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

President of the FEP, Lars Gunnar Andersen, commented on the findings.

He said: "Under the circumstances, the overall performance of our industry is certainly commendable.

"Parquet is very much alive and one can only hope that promising results attained by certain countries will gradually spread to other regions as well, thereby contributing to the much desired uniformity in the FEP territory," he added.
