If you're looking to do a bit of DIY and lay your own wooden floor, there are some common mistakes to avoid.
It's really important to make sure you've got an even surface sorted before you start laying anything down.
If you have skirting boards, remove them before laying the flooring - it's much easier to put the skirting back afterwards than trying to cut wood to fit around it.
If you're using boards, be sure to treat them as you would building bricks - if you lay them in straight lines, it won't work. Try using differing lengths and don't join the ends in a straight line, stagger them.
If you have to cut wood to fit round radiators, be really careful. Make sure you use the right saw to cut the wood, and don't overcut, or you'll end up with large gaps around the pipes.
Make sure each board is secure - any loose boards will creak or thud.
Be sure to seal the boards together too - use plenty of glue and leave them to set overnight for a solid finish.
