Wood floors add class and style to your house - but that look can be ruined by spills, stains or damage.
There are a few easy tips that could help with the most common problems with cleaning wood floors.
First of all, make sure you choose the right cleaner for your floor. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners and always read the label.
If you do get scratches and they are standing out against your chosen finish, try contacting the manufacturer to see if they have any filler or colourants to cover-up the scratch.
Scuffs and rubber scrapes from the soles of shoes can be removed with a pencil rubber - but try it on an area under furniture or under a rug first, to make sure it is safe.
For paint or ink stains, douse in warm water and soap powder, and try to lift it off with a gentle scrub.
For sticky marks, dropped gum or candlewax, use ice cubes to freeze the sticky patch, then gently scrape it with something soft-edged but sturdy.
A good wood floor has been shown to add value to a house - don't let stains ruin yours.
