Demand for laminate flooring set to increase in Asian Pacific

Having become a staple of the floor covering market in the past decade, global sales of laminate flooring are set to increase.

It has been forecast that by 2017 the laminate flooring market will reach an output of around two billion square metres; the growing demand in China and India in the next decade is also set to drive sales.

Leaps made in technology have made it possible for manufacturers to produce high quality finishes with realistic designs - both factors that have seen laminate overtake both timber and carpet in the popularity stakes.

Distressed and hand scraped finishes - both of which when applied to solid wood flooring are extremely expensive - are currently topping the trends in laminate flooring finishes; whilst the pored structure concrete appearance is expected to become another popular finish.

With China possessing the world's leading floor covering market, it is expected to become the major driving force, meeting the Asian Pacific's emerging demand for laminate flooring.
