Cutting laminate flooring to an irregular shape
Laminate flooring sizes and room shapes vary by some degree. Therefore it may be the case that a floor needs to be cut to size before or during the installation process – in order to achieve a smooth fit.
As cutting laminate floor to an irregular shape can be difficult, here is a four-step guide on how to do so:
- Firstly, ensure you are protected with the correct safety equipment – in this case, goggles, a dust mask and ear plugs.
- Draw up a template of the irregularly shaped area by placing a piece of cardboard on top, and trace round with a utility knife. Simply cut, sticking to the trace marks, to complete the template.
- Take the template and using blue painter's tape, attach it to the laminate floor plank you wish to cut, and then use a jigsaw to carefully cut to shape.
- Pull away the tape and clear any dust from the plank – which should now be the correct size for an irregular fit.
