Although undoubtedly a fantastic material - and one that has improved vastly over the past few years - vinyl flooring can, if not properly maintained, age quite quickly over time. If you fail to care for your floor, the wax coat on the surface could develop an ugly and unsightly yellow stain.
While it might seem logical to add a fresh layer of wax, in this situation, it just isn't. What will be required is the removal of the old, existing layer of wax.
So with this in mind, we've produced a short guide, simple guide on how you can go about removing that layer of wax from your vinyl flooring:
Step 1 - Firstly fill a bucket with two gallons of hot water, one cup of dishwater soap and two cups of ammonia to make a cleaning solution - remember though, don't use a dishwasher soap that contains bleach.
Step 2 - Stir the newly created solution to ensure that all the powdered soap has dissolved.
Step 3 - Take a mop, place it into the bucket and let it soak up a good amount of the cleaning solution. Then soak the flooring with the solution.
Step 4 - Focusing on the yellow areas, scrub the flooring with the mop.
Step 5 - Use the mop to soak up any excess cleaning solution; then using the same technique continue working towards the cleaning the entire floor.
Step 6 - This next step will require a number of absorbent dishcloths or tea towels to soak up the remainder of the solution. Empty your bucket and refill with clean warm water.
Step 7 - Mop with the fresh water, and once again dry with absorbent cloths to finish.
