Not everyone is a DIY expert. Taking on a challenge like laying your own floor could prove too much for someone who isn't confident or experienced.
It could prove a worthwhile challenge too - but when it comes to laying a new floor, which is often a significant investment, most people would probably rather get it right.
If you are DIY savvy, and plan to install your own floor, make sure the surface is even, insulated, damp-proofed, fire-proofed and properly fitted (to avoid lumps, loosening or tears).
If you don't fancy tackling your flooring - there are plenty of quality, professional fitters available.
Make sure you get an estimate first - and shop around. Ask about the price of, and time needed to complete the job - and remember this could be subject to change.
Once you've collected some estimates, and decided on a fitter, try to arm yourself with information about any potential obstacles - walls that have been knocked through could still have foundations under your current floor, for instance.
A professional fitter will then be able to lay your floor as you wish - in a relatively short space of time.
