American flooring industry starts to reap benefits of Lacey Act

A report on the website of a flooring supplier has suggested that an act created to prevent the use of illegally logged wood in flooring is starting to have an effect.

Originally passed in 2008, the Lacey Act was designed with the intention of stopping wood cut illegally being used in solid wood flooring.

It is also felt that the Lacey Act is having a positive effect environmentally too, as the number of trees being illegally cut down has diminished.

Don Finkell, CEO of the flooring supplier said: “The Lacey law is slow moving, but I think it's getting rid of a lot illegal logging.”

He added: “I still think there is a lot of work that needs to be done to clean it up. Behind the scenes everybody is scrambling around trying to get on the right side of this.”

More importantly the American flooring industry is beginning to reap the environmental benefits that the Lacey Act brings.
