Young people fail at maintenance and DIY
A recent study has revealed that over half the young people it surveyed lacked the most basic of DIY skills.
Statistics compiled by Halifax Home Insurance shows that, over 60 per cent of under-35s would no try to put up wallpaper, over half were unable to bleed a radiator and many could not wire a plug.
Figures reveal many young people would prefer to ask their parents for help or opt to pay a professional, rather than attempt basic home maintenance. Sixty-five per cent of those surveyed admitted their dads were far better at DIY than them.
Spokesman for Halifax Martyn Foulds said: "This survey strongly suggests that younger people feel they don't have the experience or knowledge necessary to tackle even the most basic of home maintenance and DIY tasks."
These results follow a warning from Halifax in June, when it claimed the dry summer would put homes at increased risk of subsidence.
