Wood flooring hailed as sustainable
Wood flooring has been hailed as a great option for homeowners seeking a sustainable material.
A recent Coast Explorer article noted the increasing proliferation of eco-friendly flooring options and Bill Sherman of US retailer Nehalem Bay Hardwoods claimed that the majority of his products are renewably sourced.
He revealed the popularity of his reclaimed wood flooring product, created from salvaged materials taken from a diverse range of places, including warehouses, churches and gymnasiums.
Mr Sherman went on to note the benefits of wood flooring which has had time to age.
"Old wood is different from new wood, it has a darker patina and nicer grain," he said.
The article also promoted bamboo and cork as environmentally-friendly products and claimed that it is not always necessary to spend more to find sustainable materials.
In a recent feature for the Charlotte Observer, columnist Lukas Johnson noted the many sustainable features of a new government building in North Carolina, which includes wood flooring.
