Wood flooring 'can look like new' with proper care
Wood flooring has been promoted for its ease of maintenance in a home improvement advice column.
Writing for the Kansas City Star, renovation expert Gene Austin responded to the query of one reader who was concerned about the dullness of his wood flooring.
Mr Austin claimed that, with the proper care, wood flooring can be restored to its previous condition.
"If the floors are just dull with a worn-out finish but are otherwise in good condition except for minor scuffs … you should be able to make them look like new," he said.
Mr Austin went on to state that sanding may not be required and recommended purchasing a refinishing kit and advised that the refinishing process takes around a day to complete per room.
According to the National Wood Flooring Association, homeowners should be wary of floor finishes applied before 1978, as these may contain lead.
It recommends applying a test kit to determine whether the substance is present in wood floors.
