Wood flooring 'can be spruced up with wax'

Homeowners seeking to get their wood flooring ready for when guests arrive over the holiday season have been handed advice on maintenance.

Writing for the New York Times, columnist Bob Tedeschi spoke about how he was constantly embarrassed by his wood flooring when receiving visitors over the Thanksgiving period.

In an effort to combat this, he turned to home improvement experts who advised him that the use of wax can often reinvigorate a house's wood floors.

"The professionals' advice yielded three options: a basic liquid floor wax, a tinted wax and cleaner, or a polyurethane polish. They can all save you from holiday embarrassment," Mr Tedeschi said.

He went on to state that homeowners should first identify which coating has been applied to their floor and suggested testing this using a few drops of water in an inconspicuous area.

The Wood4Floors care guide promotes regular dusting, vacuuming or sweeping of wood floors but warns not to use a cleaner with a revolving brush.
