Wood flooring 'can be protected with blinds'
Wood flooring can be protected through the use of window coverings, it has been claimed.
Writing for the Des Moines Register, columnist Jane Meisner hailed the properties of the fixtures and consulted interior design expert Karen Lantz on their usage in a home.
Ms Lantz noted that a number of her clients believe they do not require window coverings, but she revealed the potential damage which unmitigated sunlight can cause.
"I tell them they do, because the sunlight is going to come in and fade all their furniture," said Ms Lantz. "It fades wood floors."
She explained that furniture can fade rapidly when exposed to sunlight and noted that without window coverings, even indirect sunlight can still drain the colour from items.
Earlier in the month, a Calgary Sun article warned homeowners of the danger dryness can pose to wood flooring.
It recommended that failure to maintain a proper humidity in a property can lead to cracks in the material.
