'Use refinishing' to restore faded wood flooring
Refinishing has been billed as a great way for homeowners to tackle the issue of faded wood flooring.
In a Q&A session for the Kansas City Star, columnist Gene Austin was queried by one reader who had left a rug over part of his floor, the rest of which had then become discoloured over time.
Mr Austin responded with claims that refinishing is "the only practical option" in cases such as this.
"If the fading has affected only the finish, refinishing can be done without sanding," he said. "The best bet is to have an experienced floor-finisher examine the floor and advise you."
Mr Austin revealed that ultraviolet rays cause fading, which can also provoke similar discolouration in fabric, and claimed this can be dealt with either by installing drapes or using a special film on the window.
This comes after Yorkregion.com reported that the Newmarket Community Centre was also having its wood flooring refinished as part of extensive renovation work.
