US motel chain uses green wood floors

A US motel chain manager has told of its efforts to improve its environmental credentials through the use of wood flooring.

Speaking to Air & Business Travel News, Jeffrey Palmer, Accor vice president and chief marketing officer for North America, told of the recent improvements made to the rooms at the Motel 6.

He revealed that his company attempts to keep the product consistent throughout America, which means furnishing each franchise in the same way.

Mr Palmer also spoke about the newly-designed Phoenix Room, which was designed by London-based firm Priestman Goode.

"It has hard wood floors, versus rugs, which in terms of the cleanliness of a product, makes the guest feel much more comfortable about the cleanliness of the room," he said.

Mr Palmer went on to reveal that the timber used for the wood floors is made from an 80 per cent recycled product, ensuring it is sustainably-sourced.

This comes after Business West found wood flooring to be an increasingly popular material for use in Massachusetts homes.
