Understanding the nature of rooms vital to flooring, says expert

Homeowners have been advised that before any laminate or vinyl flooring materials come anywhere near their home, they need to understand the nature of the room they wish to renovate.

Speaking to British Columbia local news, Al Eris, co-owner of Metrotown Flooring and flooring expert revealed several nuggets of flooring wisdom to help homeowners get the most out of their renovation.

Commenting on the dangers of moistures, he advised renovators to be careful when flooring the bathroom or kitchen.

In the case of the kitchen, he recommended the use of porcelain tiles rather than ceramic, due to their durability.

He said: "Moisture can damage other floors. The dishwasher, sink and fridge can all cause problems. Even if it is an accident, on a tile floor you won't have to replace them if something goes wrong."

According to the expert, laminate and wood flooring can be a problem if moisture gets into the joints, as swelling often occurs.

Mr Eris also expressed his favour for engineered wood floors, which he felt could be attached to any kind of floor.

The suggestions of Mr Eris come in the wake of news that a DIY boom is expected throughout the UK this autumn.
