Summer is 'ideal time for home improvements'

Summer is the ideal time for householders to carry out home improvement projects, according to power and gas company E.ON.

Emma Thompson from the company stated that this is particularly the case for work to make a property more energy-efficient, such as adding insulation to the loft of a house.

She explained that this is because heating bills are lower during the summer months, so homeowners generally have a little bit more money to spend on their residence.

"Come the winter time, they will be looking to make a saving of about a third on their heating bills if they were uninsulated," she said.

Ms Thompson added that insulating a home well can pay for itself in the savings made on energy bills within a year of carrying out the work.

She was speaking after the Department of Energy and Climate Change laid out proposals for a new energy bill, which includes a plan to encourage more businesses and householders to make their property greener.
