"Staging staples" are the key to home improvements for sellers, expert reveals
During the turbulent economic climate, homeowners trying to sell low-end properties should turn to home improvement, one expert has claimed.
Apartment stager Cheryl Eisen said that even the smallest staging budget can work wonders for a property, increasing the chance of a sale.
In a recent article for the Wall Street Journal, she suggests that using a small budget in the right way can disguise any "dated" aspects of a property.
Ms Eisen recommended depersonalising a property so that a seller can picture their own life in the home.
This can be accomplished by painting the walls in neutral tones such as coventry grey and using what she termed "staging staples" such as white rugs, long drapes and large mirrors.
Ms Eisen went on to suggest removing all personal items from the kitchen, although she claimed a full fruit bowl could often be a nice touch.
The bathroom should be similarly depersonalised and the interior design expert even suggested clearing the medicine cabinet.
Ms Eisen's sentiments echo those of home improvement guru Kate Watson-Smyth. In an Independent article earlier in the month, she claimed significant home improvements could be completed for as little as £50.
