Saga: Over 50s struggle with home improvements
Over a third of the UK's over 50s report that their home is in need of repair, a new study has revealed.
Figures compiled by Saga indicate that one in seven is unable to afford the necessary repairs, with women being particularly affected.
Executive chairman for the organisation Andrew Goodsell claimed that the financial sector has not responded to the needs of the public and is preventing people from being able to access money.
"People are living longer which means that retirement incomes have to stretch a lot further to keep up with inflation. Many retirees find they need additional cash," he said.
Saga's findings come in the wake of a report from Age UK which indicated long-term unemployment was rife among the UK's population of over 50s.
The report from Saga also found that many over 50s could not afford the necessary repairs and were unwilling to seek financial aid from families and friends.
