'Safety first' for DIY in the nursery
Home improvement enthusiasts seeking to furnish a nursery for their baby should consider safety "above all", according to one DIY expert.
In a recent Chino Valley eNews article, Rosie Romero advised renovators to make sure that they use a water-based paint and let the room dry out for several days before the baby takes up residence.
She also provided advice on how to furnish the room to minimise the risk of injury to a baby.
"Add out-of-reach shelves to store your supplies or hide them in dresser drawers that nobody but the adults can find. Never place shelves on the walls near the crib," Ms Romero said.
Her advice follows research from Halifax, which indicated that many homeowners are increasingly willing to carry out DIY projects in order to create the "perfect home".
Ms Romero went on to recommend anchoring furniture on to the wall, to minimise the risk of items falling on toddlers.
