Road salt 'will not damage wood flooring'
Wood flooring owners worried about treading in excess road salt or grit have been assured that it will not cause damage to the material.
This is according to Steve Davis, owner of US retailer Modern Flooring America, who told Mlive.com that industry bodies have never given an alert to sellers regarding this issue.
"I haven't found it to be a troublesome problem," he said. "If it was detrimental to the product we have … I'm sure the manufacturer would let us know."
Mr Davis went on to state that apart from a slight aesthetic residue, he does not believe grit and salts will have much "impact" on wood floors.
However, he did warn that moisture can be a problem and recommended the use of coverings to protect wood flooring.
Stephen Eckhard recently told the St Joseph News-Press that wood floors can last for a number of years if they are properly maintained.
